We Open a Weak 2
Following the logic that we might have games in either our major, the other
major (if Opener has a fit) or NT ... all dependent on whether Opener's hand
works or not.
Responder's Bids Over 2M
- (2♠/3♥)ALERT - natural, invitational, NF. Opener may now:
- Pass - no interest, but tolerance for Responder's major
- 3M - no game interest, no tolerance for Responder's major
- 3NTALERT - game accept with specifically Hx in Responder's suit
- new suit - a distributional freak, 6-5 usually.
- 4OM - game accept with 3+ support for Responder's suit
- 2NTALERT - relay, see below.
- 3m - natural, F1. Responder might be aiming for 5m, 6m, 3NT, or
something else.
- 3M - continuing the preempt, same as Standard.
After 2NT Relay
- Usually Opener will just bid 3♣ALERT (forced). However,
- 3♦ - absolutely cannot stand to be passed out in 3♣ - implies a
club void
- 3M - shows a suit with 1 loser opposite a void. 6 to the AKQ or
4 of the top 5 honors.
After the 3♣ bid, Responder can now clarify:
- Pass - to play
- 3♦ - to play
- 3M - invitational to 4M
- 3OM - natural, GF
- 3NT - choice of games. Responder shows 4 cards in OM
After Responder's 3m
3m should generally show a 5+ suit. Until further notice, Opener should
assume Responder is making a 3NT game try. Possible responses
- 3M - reject all game tries
- 3♦ALERT/3OMALERT - a good hand for 3NT.
- 3NT - accept the 3NT try and shows something approximating a stopper
in one or both side suits
- 4m - not good for 3NT but ruffing values and support for m
- 4M - shows a suit with 1 loser opposite a void. 6 to the AKQ or
4 of the top 5 honors.
